RESPONSE TO COVID-19 – OFFICES CLOSED

Dear tenants,

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, and the recommendations of health organizations and other local businesses; Nanaimo

Affordable Housing will be closing all offices. If you have rent payments or correspondence to deliver, please drop them through the office door at one of our primary locations: 21 – 11 Buttertubs, 451 Selby, or 619 Comox. Tenant Relations staff will be around to collect these items but will only be reachable by phoning one of the offices.

All office phones will be forwarded to a single location to streamline communication during this outbreak. Calling any office will get you through to Tenant Relations; please leave a message if staff are unable to answer the phone right away, we will respond to all voicemails as soon as possible after receipt.

Please note that Nanaimo Affordable Housing sponsored social activities (including BINGO, Tenant Meetings, and coffee and chat) will be suspended until further notice. Public spaces, such as the Hall at Buttertubs will be closed until further notice.

Maintenance work within units will be reduced to emergency repairs only to limit staff exposure. Cleaning staff have been working diligently to sanitize ‘touch zones’ across all properties – a bleach dilution will be used during this time in accordance with recommendations from the World Health Organization.

We are also recommending that tenants make every effort to practice social distancing by limiting social gatherings as much as possible. We are asking tenants to self-isolate if they are feeling any signs of the virus or have been confirmed to be carrying.

Please call and report to Tenant Relations if you are showing signs or have been confirmed to be carrying the virus.

The BC Ministry of Health strongly urges anyone who has symptoms – including a fever, cough, sneezing, sore throat, or difficulty breathing – to self-isolate for 14 days. To protect yourself while out in public, wash your hands frequently and maintain a distance of about 2 meters from others.

The province has created a phone service to provide non-medical information about COVID 19, including the latest information on travel recommendations and social distancing. Information is available in more than 110 languages, 7:30 am – 8 pm at 1-888-COVID19 (1-888-268-4319) or via text message at 604-630-0300.

We want to ensure everyone is aware that groceries can be ordered online through most major retailers and delivered straight to your door: Save-On-Foods, Superstore, and Quality Foods all have this service.

Please remember to take care of your mental health over the coming weeks; connect with neighbors over the phone and if you or someone you know is in crisis please call the Vancouver Island Crisis Line at: 1‑888-494-3888 or text 250-800-3806.

Thank you for your attention to this letter; we wish everyone the best of health and safety in the coming weeks. We will release more information as it comes available, thank you for your patience and understanding.

Kind Regards,

Jay Stewart – Manager of Tenant Relations
