COVID-19 RESPONSE

MARCH 16, 2020 – Nanaimo Affordable Housing is taking steps to protect tenants by following guidance provided by experts as it comes available.

Currently, the risk of spread in B.C. communities remains low. In B.C., Canada, and many other countries, we continue to be inactive containment mode to detect cases and respond to prevent the virus from spreading in the community.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses, including the flu and common cold. They include cough, sneezing, fever, sore throat and difficulty breathing.

It can be spread by touch if a person has used their hands to cover their mouth or nose when they cough.

The most important thing you can do to prevent coronavirus and other illnesses is to wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face.

We are strongly urging tenants to self-quarantine at the first sign of symptoms. We are also asking that tenants prepare plans in the event of a quarantine situation. Connect with family, neighbors, caregivers; to determine what your needs will be and how they can be met by the resources you have available to you.

Proper planning NOW will greatly improve your situation if quarantine is required.

NAHS will be suspending all public gatherings within our buildings until further notice. We strongly suggest that tenants suspend their own gatherings until further notice. More information will be released as the situation progresses; in the meantime, more information on COVID-19, response, and best practices can be found at:
