Application Information for Supportive Housing at:
350 Prideaux St. and 153 Wallace St.
Nanaimo Affordable Housing runs independent housing for single adults with permanent disabilities who require staff support. No emergency housing is available.
Application Procedure
The application process involves three steps:
Step 1: Applicant contacts Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society (NAHS) to make an appointment to tour the building and receive information about the application process. Potential applicants should phone 714-0170.
Step 2: Applicant makes arrangements for a community health care professional to provide a referral. This referral needs to speak to the applicant’s need for supportive housing and the individual’s ability to manage their disability.
Step 3: When a vacancy occurs, all applications on hand are reviewed and selected applicants will be invited for a short interview.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
Nanaimo Affordable Housing always has more applications than vacancies. Therefore, not everyone who applies will be accepted. A complete and realistic assessment from a health care professional is essential in helping us make the very difficult choice of offering a unit to those who are in need and are most likely to benefit.
Pets
There is a RESTRICTED pet policy in effect. Tenants are allowed one of the following: one caged hamster, gerbil, or guinea pig, one caged bird (no parrots or macaws), or an aquarium of not more than 20 litres. No dogs or cats are allowed.
